An 84-year-old female patient presented with dyspeptic symptoms and unintentional weight loss, without hematochemical abnormalities (Hb 14 g/dL). An upper abdominal ultrasound was performed, revealing a lesion with a heterogeneous echotexture, predominantly hypoechoic, with ill-defined margins, located in the stomach between the body and the fundus (images n°1).
Subsequent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) confirmed the presence of a subepithelial lesion measuring approximately 40 mm in the gastric body, along the greater curvature (image n°2, courtesy of Dr. Stefania SCANNI).
Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen demonstrated marked arterial-phase enhancement of the lesion (image n°3).
An endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis revealed findings consistent with a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) (image n°4, courtesy of Dr. Fabia ATTILI).
