A 62-year-old woman underwent histological examination for suspected primary biliary disease. The procedure was complicated by an intrahepatic hematoma with subdiaphragmatic effusion; the hemorrhage was effectively treated with arterial embolization. During follow-up, we observed progressive reduction of the intrahepatic hematoma but the formation of a large reactive pleural effusion, which remained present after 4 months.
