Eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the esophagus, presents with an endoscopic picture characterized by several abnormalities visible during endoscopy (gastroscopy), including:

 

- Erythema and edema (redness and swelling of the esophageal mucosa)

- Mucosal friability (the mucosa appears fragile and tears easily during endoscopy)

- Eosinophilic microabscesses (small whitish spots on the mucosa, due to the presence of eosinophils)

- Esophageal rings (concentric rings that narrow the esophageal lumen)

- Stricture (narrowing of the esophageal lumen, which can cause dysphagia)

- Crepe paper sign (rare sign, characterized by tearing of the mucosa when the endoscope is passed)
