We recently performed at E.O. Ospedali Galliera Genova a Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for a patient with an Achalasia, integrating EndoFLIP measurements both before and after the procedure.
EndoFLIP allowed us to:
- Assess esophagogastric junction (EGJ) distensibility in real time
- Objectively guide the extent of the myotomy
- Confirm the immediate functional outcome of the intervention
The comparison between pre- and post-myotomy measurements provided clear evidence of improved EGJ distensibility, supporting procedural efficacy beyond visual assessment alone.
This approach highlights how combining advanced endoscopic techniques with functional luminal imaging can:
- Enhance procedural precision
- Support tailored therapy
- Potentially improve patient outcomes
A step forward toward physiology-guided endoscopic intervention.
