Ultrasound has become an important, radiation‑free tool for diagnosing and managing diverticular disease, especially acute diverticulitis, offering rapid bedside assessment and reliable detection of key inflammatory features. Its value is increasingly recognized in emergency settings and in follow‑up of symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease.
This is the case of a 58-year-old woman who underwent abdominal ultrasound for acute left iliac fossa pain. The ultrasound revealed segmental thickening of the abdominal wall with perivisceritis. A follow-up visit one week after antibiotic therapy revealed normalization of the diverticulitis with resolution of symptoms.
