Collagenous gastritis is a rare inflammatory stomach disorder characterized by a thick band of collagen beneath the gastric lining. It presents differently in children and adults and often requires endoscopy with biopsy for diagnosis.

Collagenous gastritis (CoG) is defined by:

  • A subepithelial collagen band >10 micrometers in the gastric mucosa
  • Chronic inflammation with lymphocytes or eosinophils
  • A very low number of cases worldwide since its first description in 1989

It belongs to the family of collagenous inflammatory diseases, which can also affect the small and large intestine.

Here is a case of a 69 years old female submitted upper endoscopy for epigastric pain
